Flow of Autumn
There is a tranquility in the abundance of natural streams; this scene was found just outside the grounds of a beautiful temple in the mountains of Gifu, Japan. Traveling around the maze of small mountain roads, I came to the end of one to find a small town with a temple with high walls. It had its own forest of maple trees, with a traditional red bridge over the stream. I returned to the town at the peak of the Fall reds and oranges, and when patchy cloud was expected: blue sky to bring out the water colors and cloud for color balance. I splashed water on the rocks, on the greenery and leaves to help bring out the colors and captured this scene. Later I returned and photographed the scene again to make sure that I had achieved the desired result. The first set of photographs was best, but I returned a third time, just to be sure - the river was covered by piles of yellow, dry, old maple leaves a foot thick.
